Nissan RE4R01A transmission & TPS question

A forum for discussing applications and implementations of the MegaShift transmission controller code for the GPIO from B&G. This can control up to 8-speeds and 6 shift solenoids (plus a 16x9 table for controlling a PWM line pressure valve). It has manual and fully automatic modes (16x9 load x speed table), with under and over rev-limit protection, and full data logging of all inputs and outputs (among many other abilities). A TransStim to test your completed board is also available.

Nissan RE4R01A transmission & TPS question

Post by ska69 »

Hello,

not long ago I decided to switch back to auto trans from manual (200sx s13, same body as 240sx s13 & same transmissions, btw the car was an auto originally), and megasquirt my engine (engine-wise everything looks great & supported by the MS), I also found @ DIYAutotune the MSgpio and megashift mod...and it caught my interest :)

so will MegaShift work with RE4R01A (looks like it's a 2 solenoid gearbox with 4 gear and shift logic similar to 4L6Oe, however I might be mistaken on this).

my other question is about the TPS - does the auto transmission gear box ecu (Megashift or stock) require a personal TPS sensor and a signal from the MS-II will be sufficient? I couldn't find any info on this...factory manual shows that a signal from the TPS is sent to the gearbox ecu, but I think it's sent to the EcU & via ECU to the gearbox ecu.

Also for ease of use & setup I want to replace the stock tps to with a GM style TPS...anyone know if this will be ok?

I'm really excited about having a standalone ECU for the engine & the gearbox :)

Any help appreciated.

Cheers,

- Tim

Tim,

You can use either TPS or MAP as the load signal over the CAN network from MS-II, so you don't need a TPS for MShift if you are using CAN. For more info see: http://www.msgpio.com/manuals/mshift/V2tune.html#oa

If you aren't using CAN (if you have an MS-I, for example) then MShift needs a load signal that is 0-5 Volts, and this can be from a TPS, and MAP sensor, or a MAF/VAF sensor: http://www.msgpio.com/manuals/mshift/V2tune.html#gl

From your description, it sounds like MShift should work on your trans. The hardest part will be finding out the info you need to set up MShift. A factory service manual is very handy for this, but Google might work too. Here's some tips on what you will want to know: http://www.msgpio.com/manuals/mshift/newtrans.html

Thank you Lance, that's great!

Yeah, I have the factory manual & RE4R01A repair manual as well as some other after-market TCM manuals, just have to look through them attentively... but i'm not sure I have the 3/2Sol (Output3) solenoid, is that bad?

I believe I have lots of info to dig through.

Tim,

The 3/2 solenoid is just used to soften certain shifts in the 4L60/4L80E. It is a bit of a pain to work with, and you won't miss it at all! The shift firmness can be controlled with the line pressure settings instead.

hey ska69

how is your project going ? i also have a nissan skyline RB25DET highly modified and want to use the GPIO board for controlling the transmission. i am very interested in this for the autoshift pattern remains the same each run which is very good.
it would be nice to hear from you if you went with this conversion.

thanks

hey ar99kid

I had to put it on hold and install a 5 speed manual, however I'm still holding onto the auto gearbox and shaft for future testing. It'll be a while until I get back to this because right noe I need to megasquirt my project & then proceed with this great upgrade to it.
