Did you ever make any progress on finding an alternative to timing retard for turbo app's?

Having the boost spike during a shift is not the best for the trans. I tore up a full billet built 4l70 last year. 4L80e going in soon.

How can I get the vehicle speed sent over the CAN-Bus into the MS2 and then out the MS2 serial port in order to datalog speed along with the engine parameters?

The GPIO hardware has the right inputs and outputs to do the job what is missing is the control s/w to get the job done. From my perspective in general the MS project could use more embedded programmers to make things like this happen.

Retarding the timing works fine in a NA application, but may be counter-productive in a turbo app. Typically when the timing is retarded the boost increases.

I'd like to help further, we're weather limited until March - 20" of snow and -10 to -30* has curtailed operations..

This is going to vary with the transfer case design. The one transfer case I have data on, low range is 2.69:1 reduction. You'll need to make this a setable value via MT.
