Problems in auto mode
Problems in auto mode
I recently wired in the megashift into my commodore with a 4l60e. I can get all the gears if I manually shift through them, I can only get 3rd and 4th though if I'm above a certain speed, not sure if that's normal or not yet. If I release the brakes in D at 0kmh, TunerStudio shows auto at the bottom, brakes off and the current gear shows 1 however it seems as though it's in neutral, I can rev all the way to 5k and nothing happens, if I move the shifter back to 1st it'll change to 1st then if I accelerate gently and shift through the gears to D it'll stay in 4th gear at 50kmh.
What am I doing wrong so that it won't pick up first gear when in D at 0kmh engine load is at 17kpa at idle. Strange though how the current gear shows 1??
Thanks
Ben

Re: Problems in auto mode
By design, the code has no way of selecting neutral in either manual or auto mode, this can only be done with the lever. That doesn't mean it isn't happening to you, just that we need to look at it very carefully.
For the 4L60E, the power take a different path through the trans when the lever is placed in first than it does if the solenoids select first (with the lever in D), so it's not impossible that one of the elements in the trans is slipping when the solenoids are used instead of the lever.
We need to see your msq, and a datalog of this happening so we can tell if this is a code problem, a settings problem, a wiring problem, or something else (like movement in the drive line affecting the shift lever).

Thanks for the response. I was playing with it again today. I metered out the solenoids, they are all around the 22-24ohm mark, when I energise them they are all drawing around 500mA and I can hear a little click come from the transmission when doing so. If I maunally power solA and SolB with the shifter in D I have no forward movement. I assume this would mean that there is either a fault with the mechanical part of the solenoid or something else is not right inside the trans? Out of curiosity I connected the trans back up to my standard PCM and left the megashift tapped into the pressure manifold ABC switches, TPS and speedo and noticed that when the trans is controlled by my PCM if I have it in D and accelerate megashift shows current gear as 3 when accelerating, when I brake it goes to 2 when I release the brake it goes to 1 for a second and then straight to 3, all strange stuff. I think I am going to have to make a trip to the trans shop tomorrow unfortuneately to have my wallet emptied.
The MSGPIO appears to be doing everything it's meant to do, so I'll see what happens at the shop tomorrow.
Thanks
Ben

Re: Problems in auto mode
That sounds right to me - if you have power flowing through solA and solB and the lever is in D you *should* be in first - if you are not there is a hydraulic or mechanical issue.
MegaShift will do some strange things if all the inputs aren't hooked up, so it's hard to say much about that. What I can say is that MegaShift doesn't monitor the outputs (yet, this is planned for a future version); it just commands them and expects them to be right. So it wouldn't have any way of knowing what the other controller is doing.
Good luck at the trans shop.
