sorry for questions..IS there a reson why i have freewheelin

let me explain.this is the first auto i have owned,i dont like them, but am trying too!! (as i see its potential).SO NOT SURE if this is normal, or NOT.??
so before can bus issue..(see other post..sigh) gearbox will freewheel if i let off throttle and its like its in neutral untill i allow engine speed tp catch up with road speed..ie no thing happens to momentum of car till engine speed increases..say doing 30mph at 1200rpm in 3rd,let off throttle, car coasts, engine rpm drops tp 600rpm . but then i need to apply throttle to keep speed at 30, but gearbox feels like its in neutral for a few secs untill engine speed reaches 1200rpm, then it applys power to wheels..THIS happens more at a lower speed than higher..(lower speed i have set line pressure lower)
is this normal??or is this slipping?and if so i assume i need to increse line pressure..?
sorry if this a so simple dumb question, but as stated never owned auto , here in UK performance motors are all manual, (but since my other 71 rangie (supercharged toyota v8 powered ms3 controlled) eats clutches and gearboxes at about 2 a year, i thought i would give it ago!..(oh auto ms2 gpio range rover runs suercharged nitrosed 4.6 rover v8..)
