5R55 N,S,E trans?

A forum for discussing applications and implementations of the MegaShift transmission controller code for the GPIO from B&G. This can control up to 8-speeds and 6 shift solenoids (plus a 16x9 table for controlling a PWM line pressure valve). It has manual and fully automatic modes (16x9 load x speed table), with under and over rev-limit protection, and full data logging of all inputs and outputs (among many other abilities). A TransStim to test your completed board is also available.

5R55 N,S,E trans?

Post by bent wrench »

Working on a Frankenstein Volvo 122
with a Duratec 3.0L motor run by MSII

I have 2 OEM trans options

Getrag 221 manual

or

5R55N Auto

My lazy side wants the Auto but I am concerned about technical hurdles of successfully controlling the trans.
My first thought is naturally the GPIO

The 5R55 is robust as it is used behind V8 motors.
The Getrag 221 is not strong enough to use behind a V8. I might be OK with the lighter car, but it will be abused.

Looking for 5 speed success stories.

Is the code ready for prime time?
Should I consider it for use in a daily driver?
What "gotchas" can I expect to run into?

Trans connections seem very simple, I believe there is one more speed sensor for MPH
